About This Piece
The Temple of Bacchus in Baalbek, Lebanon is a Roman temple that once stood as part of an enormous religious complex dedicated to the Phoenician god Bacchus, who in local and Roman religion was a patron of happiness. Built in the 1st century AD on a site already sacred since at least the 3rd millennium BC, its ruins serve today as a reminder of the beautiful history of this region.
